This book was interesting in that it contained more fantasy elements than the previous in the series, and had more symbolic elements. Although there was more use of symbolism such as decay as corruption and the anthropomorphization of a forest paralleling the increasing xenophobia and animosity of the village, I thought it somewhat shallowly portrayed.
