The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells

I listened to the Tantor Audio reading of the book.

My favorite part of this book was the description of Moreau’s motivation behind his creations. The creatures are brought into the world without much reason (just a whim of the creator or out of the attempt to create a being like himself), through a crucible of pain, and bestowed gifts that they don’t know how to use. These gifts give them reason and logic and makes them more than animals, but the animal always shows through.
