I never got into Doom or Quake, having gotten a computer fairly late (in high school). It was inspiring learning in detail about the various achievements of id Software and how pervasive Doom became in pop culture. I personally did not experience itâmaybe I was too young or was in the wrong cohort. Still more interesting was the disfunction that followed Romero and Carmack. Their personal interactions reminded me of those of Steve Jobs, whose visionary leadership was juxtaposed to a bad temperament and lack of empathy.
